Bernie Sanders Falsely Claims “Abortion is a Constitutional Right”

Sanders’ views on abortion are, perhaps, the most radical of all the Democratic presidential candidates, but every top contender supports unrestricted taxpayer-funded abortions up to birth.

Back in the old days, abortion enthusiasts used to say that killing a baby should be “safe, legal, and rare.” The idea was that abortion should be a last resort. They didn’t want to seem too bloodthirsty, but they still wanted to keep the door open in case you really, really need that kid dead.

Well, forget about all that. The ruse is over. The veil has been torn away. Now the 2nd-place contender in the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential race is flatly calling for abortion on demand, and he’s even citing the United States Constitution to back him up.

In September during the CNN climate town hall, Sanders went further than the rest by arguing for more abortions as a population control measure. About 61 million unborn babies have been legally aborted since Roe v. Wade.

Sanders has a 100-percent pro-abortion voting record in the Senate, including a recent vote against a bill to protect newborns from infanticide. In April, he also tried to justify his position allowing unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth. Sanders told the Fox News town hall that late-term abortions are “okay” because they are “rare.” About 12,000 late-term unborn babies are aborted each year.

In 2018, he voted against a bill to ban later abortions — a bill that would have saved as many as 18,000 unborn babies from abortions every year. The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would have banned abortions after 20 weeks when unborn babies are nearly fully formed and capable of feeling intense pain.

Though Democrat leaders claim their radical pro-abortion stance represents the majority, polls show otherwise. According to a national poll by Marist University in January, three in four Americans (75 percent) say abortion should be limited to – at most – the first three months of pregnancy. This includes most Republicans (92 percent), Independents (78 percent) and Democrats (60 percent). Recent Gallup polling also found that 53 percent of Americans oppose all or most abortions.

A Politico/Harvard University poll in 2016 found that just 36 percent of likely voters supported taxpayer funding for abortions, while 58 percent opposed it.
